Mt Albert Campaign

Julian PistoriusHi, I’m Julian Pistorius. I’m a 32 year old computer programmer and former deputy leader of Libertarianz.

I advocate individual rights. There is only one basic human right: the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences.

  • Government’s job is to protect these rights, not do them over.
  • To be our servant, not our master.
  • To respect our freedoms, not to nanny us.
  • We should be free to live our lives as we choose – just as long as we each respect that same right in others.

The motorway–and so called super-city–are things that should be dealt with through negotiation, not by dictatorial edict from Wellington.

The candidates from the other major parties are already in Parliament. Their loyalties already lie elsewhere – to their parties, not to you.

At this by-election all the parties are listening. The Government is listening.

At this by-election you can send a clear unmistakable message to the National/ACT Government – by standing up for your rights, and Voting Pistorius.

No other candidate will stand up for you.

Vanishing Democracy of New Zealand

Here is a short video by independent cameraman and journalist, Vincent Eastwood, on the marginalisation of minor candidates by the media and organisations who arrange candidate meetings. He interviews myself and Dakta Green (ALCP):

Vanishing Democracy Of New Zealand & NWO (MR NEWS)

Though he makes some excellent points, I don’t agree with Dakta about forcing organisations to invite all candidates.

Libertarianz respects the rights of media and other organisations to invite whomever they want.

Back in 2005, when Jim Anderton and Peter Dunne wanted to take TV3 to court for not having them on the leaders debate, Peter Cresswell and Bernard Darnton presented our case for supporting TV3’s rights, even though Libertarianz could have joined the whingers:

Not PC: Dunne desperate for the worm

Libertarianz objects to busybodying over Leaders Debate

So, if you want to see diversity of opinions and a challenge to the status quo, voice your discontent, and persuade the media and other organisations to give people other than the ‘usual suspects’ a fair go. Persuasion, not force, is way to go about it.

National = Liars

Not PC takes on the National Party and their bare-faced lies:

They lied to you

“We didn’t see the economic collapse coming.” Yeah right.

Find out why you didn’t get your tax cuts.

Advice for Rodney Hide

PC has some advice for Rodney Hide:

http://pc.blogspot.com/2009/06/rodneys-my-fair-lady-clause.html

Extract:

  • Eliminate the ability of non-ratepayers to vote in all local body elections;
  • Reintroduce non-resident ratepayer vote;
  • An immediate and permanent cap on the ratings levels of councils at existing monetary levels;
  • Require that the 25% of councils each year that tax ratepayers at the highest level per ratepayer be required to reduce rates to the level of the lowest council;
  • Require the abolition of all general rates differentials (e.g. higher rates for commercial properties vs. residential), with the current lowest general rating category applying across the board;
  • Eliminate targeted rates in favour of direct user charges;
  • Eliminate local authority petrol and diesel tax;
  • Immediately prohibit all councils entering into any new commercial or non-commercial venture of any kind, and  require that all existing trading activities of councils (including roads) be transferred to Local Authority Trading Enterprises;
  • Prohibit ratepayer funding for any activities of any Local Authority Trading Enterprise;
  • Prohibit new council borrowing. Existing debt repayments will only be able to be made from existing revenue sources, including privatisation;
  • Prohibit councils making bylaws that interfere with individual freedoms and private property rights;
  • Require that all councils when acting under their statutory obligations under the Resource Management Act, fully respect all private property rights;

AUT Meet & Greet

AUT had an event for students and staff to meet the Mt Albert by-election candidates today.

We each had a chance to state our positions clearly, spout meaningless platitudes, mumble incoherently, or rant like lunatics - depending on the approach of each individual candidate.

The only person (other than myself - if I might not-so-humbly declare) who made any sense was Dakta Green the ALCP candidate, who gave an impassioned and principled speech on the absolute, mindless prohibition of certain substances in New Zealand. He emphasised the fact that it is a matter of freedom and individual rights. Good on ya Dakta!

During question time, a member of the audience asked what each candidate thought about the violation of the property rights of the owners of homes in the way of the motorway, railway, cycleways and other infrastructure projects. I denounced the current policy, urging that property rights should be respected. Russel Norman completely evaded the question, going on about public transport instead. David Shearer waffled on about nothing much at all - as per usual, probably hoping that if he mentions his favourite word: ‘communities’ as many times as possible, that nobody would notice that he hadn’t actually said anything. Neither Melissa Lee nor John Boscawen had bothered to stay around long enough to get to the questions. Very poor all round, I thought. I think the electorate needs an answer to this crucial question.

Thanks to the all the Libz crew who turned up in support.

Transit Exec Admits - Easier to Bulldoze Homes

Libertarianz candidate for Mt Albert, Julian Pistorius has discovered the real reason why Mt Albert homes will be demolished for motorway construction. Pistorius asked NZTA executives why they decided against going down Oakley Creek as an alternative to destroying private homes.

The answer from NZTA’s Wayne McDonald was: “The Environment Court … would go for protecting the open space and the environment, before they’d worry about people’s homes.”

Pistorius responded, “It is as Libertarianz has been warning for a long time: Regulations in New Zealand now make it easier to bulldoze family homes, than to touch ‘green’ areas. Plants and puddles are now more important than people. It is time to put individuals and their property rights first. That is what a free and prosperous society is based on.”

“It is obvious that without the Resource Management Act (which all but prohibits touching mangrove swamps and minor creeks), the NZTA could be more creative when planning motorway routes. And to protect property rights, the Public Works Act - which allows them to steal people’s homes - should be scrapped.”

“Mt Albert voters: None of the other candidates in Mt Albert put your property rights first,” Pistorius concluded. “If you want someone to fight for your rights, vote for Julian Pistorius.”
